Hopefully when traveling, you’ll never have to refer to these tips, but it can happen to anyone. No matter how well you plan, things happen: Airports lose luggage, hotels wind up forgetting your reservation and rental cars break down.
Here are ten tactics you can put to work if you find yourself stranded in India:

Keep Your Cool
This is your Prime Directive. The most important thing is that you keep the cool. Stop and gather your thoughts and get everything in perspective: Okay, you’re stuck in India. There are a lot worse places to be stuck than in one of the coolest (and cheapest) places in the developed world. Just keep your cool and trust that you’re going to work this out.

Take Stock
Take stock of your inventory. This will help you plan your next move. What do you have available to you? Chances are you have your wallet on you, so that includes your credit card, identification and so on. You might have some snacks or toiletries in your bag that can provide some temporary comfort while you form a survival plan.

Get to Know India
It’s unfortunate that you have to get to know Indian culture while missing your luggage or trying to search for India hotels at the last minute, but even your hotel search can benefit enormously by a familiarity with what India is all about. For instance, if you want to find hotels for rent, you’re going to have to learn that Indians shake their head to say yes. Get acquainted with the people of India and the task of getting back on track will be made that much easier.

When Money is an Issue, find a Lodge
If you’re looking for cheap hotels, India is home to “lodges.” Though they aren’t the most ideal places to stay, they beat sleeping on the street. Of course, these are something of a last resort to rely on when you don’t really have any cash on hand and are waiting for traveler’s checks to clear.

Rely on Indian Hospitality
Indians are some of the most hospitable people in the world and if you’re from a big city, you might be shocked at just how understanding they can be. When low on resources, don’t be too proud to accept a little help from the people of India. Just remember…

There are Con-Men in India, Too!
Some people in India, as anywhere else on the planet, are more than happy to take advantage of a lost tourist who they see as an easy mark. Around the world, even during the U.S. recession, westerners are perceived as very wealthy with deep pockets and few real expenses. Dispel that myth if somebody tries to make an easy mark out of you.

Make a Friend “with Connections”
If you’re stuck in an airport, the very best approach to getting some help getting acquainted with an employee there. Understand that most airport employees are just making ends meet and they receive valid and not-so-valid complaints all day, every day. Finding someone who’s not busy and getting acquainted before asking for help is always a smart approach.

Plan for the Essentials
Food, clothing and shelter are the main survival ingredients. These are the three things we take for granted at home but we find are necessary to survive. If you’re going to be stuck somewhere for a while, make sure you have a plan to eat and get some sleep. It can be a good idea to get a nap in the airport, even if you’re about to go elsewhere, as you should be well rested for any challenges ahead.

Always Have a Plan B
Your travel plan should include these two words: “if” and “then.” As in, “If the airport loses my luggage, then I have enough to get by in my carry-on bag.” Or “If the rental car doesn’t pan out, then I can take a cab.” Three more words that should be in your travel plan: “Just in case.” As in, “Just in case something happens to my wallet, I have extra cash in my shoe.” Always hope for the best, but plan for the worst.

Try Not to Make Things Worse
One of the biggest parts of any survival plan is damage control. Just remember that things could always be worse, and if you panic, it’s likely you’ll make things worse. For instance, let’s say you missed a plane and now you’re stuck here for the next 12 hours. The last thing you want to do is get drunk at the airport bar and be refused entry on THAT plane. Or maybe you panic and spend all of your cash on food and water, and now you’re broke when the plane arrives.
The most important thing is just not to panic. Clear heads always prevail.

When planning a business trip or holiday, consider not only the transportation to get to your destination but also consider Cheap Car Hire for transportation while at your destination. Instead of hiring a taxi service when you land at the airport, choose a Car Hire Heathrow Airport or Car Hire Gatwick Airport depending on your destination location. Having your own transportation for your holiday or business trip will enable you to go to places you need to go on your own schedule without having to rely on another driver or taxi service. Keep in mind however, that you may need an international driver’s license if you are traveling internationally. You can find information on this by contacting car hire companies located in your destination city.

Enjoy the lively ambiance of Christmas in the coastal, quiet town of Sitges. You can experience a Catalan-style Christmas at the seaside of the Mediterranean. Doesn’t it sound good?

The town of Sitges, well-known for its Fantasy Film Festival and the February Carnival, celebrates Christmas to the fullest and everybody is welcome to gather this festival. The town is decorated with Christmas lights, outstanding are the lights hanging down the facade of the Townhall in Sitges.

Christmas is a time of joy and spending time with the family. Therefore, Sitges offers you lots of places and activities ideal to share these winter days with your family. For example, the Fira de Santa Llucia which starts at the first weekend of December and it is usually located in the Oasis neighborhood. Remember that you can buy your Christmas decorations in this traditional Catalan Christmas market. Your children will love going with you and walking from one stall to the other choosing the best Christmas stuff. Don’t forget your Christmas tree, a Caga-tio and a Catalan caganer! The best traditional Christmas sweets are also sold here, a real temptation for sweet-toothed kids and adults.

Another place where your children will have lots of fun is the Christmas park in Sitges. This magical park opens by 29th December until 4th January. It is located at the Pins Vens Pavillion. Workshops, games and a great bouncy castle are some of the star activities programmed to make Christmas holidays entertaining. What is more, the Christmas park will enjoy the collaboration of police officers and firefighters of Sitges who will take part in lots of Christmas activities for children to educate and make them smile. They will learn traditional Christmas carols, too! Won’t it be funny to listen to your kids singing in Catalan? Can you imagine it?

And… what about going to the beach with your children at Christmas? You can do this in Sitges, temperatures are not too cold – maybe not too high to have a swim, though. The beach of La Fragata is one of the most important stages for Christmas activities: it is home to the ecological Christmas tree, the ecological ice-skating rink and there are usually pony rides, as well.

As you have seen, Sitges is one of the best places to spend Christmas with your family. Accommodation is not a problem either, as there are big, nice apartments in Sitges ideal for families; but don’t wait too long, Christmas is just around the corner!

If you’ve never rented a car abroad before, car hire in Crete may seem a little scary at first, but worry not – if you prepare yourself properly you’ll be on easy street quicker than you think. Throughout Greece, roads vary wildly in terms of quality, with large towns and cities connected by broad highways. In the north of the island, you’ll find a highway from Agios Nikolaos (Kissamos) cutting through Heraklion, Rethymnion and Chania. However, the road from Agios Nikolaos to Sitia is characterised by its razor-sharp bends so drivers should remain alert if looking to visit smaller towns and villages. In Crete, many parts of the highway or ‘National Road’ as it is more commonly known is effectively a dual carriageway. Newer, wider roads are also being built in the Messara area to the south of the Heraklion district (Festos, Matala, Timbaki, Kokkinos, Pirgos, as well as in the Viannos area. Heading away from the north coast, the quality changes radically, with roads becoming narrow and full of dangerous bends. If you’re really looking to get off the beaten track, then you might even have to endure lengthy stretches of gravel road, so brace yourself for a bumpy ride! Stony, gravel roads are also typical to the mountainous areas, where new tracks are being carved out all the time. Road warnings may not even be in existence. If you are in any way wary of these type of roads, you are not advised to attempt crossing. Some of these roads are only suited to 4WD vehicles – so take extreme care. Narrow country roads cam lengthen journey times significantly. Take for example the journey time from Paleochorato to Sougia – the distance is only around 30km but it can take up to 45 minutes to get there because of the narrow, winding roads. Those who suffer from motion sickness and small children will find trips like this difficult to handle at times. Some tips for driving in Greece: It is customary to drive on the right – the same as the United States and continental Europe. Cars travelling from the right are entitled to the right of way unless otherwise stated. Those entering a traffic circle must proceed first and drivers in the circle are forced to yield. If there isn’t enough room to pass on the road, fast drivers will wait for slower drivers to pull over onto the hard shoulder of the road in order to let them through. Drivers should note that hard shoulders can come to a sudden end and in mountainous areas, drivers could be subjected to rock falls. Traffic signs are posted in Greek and English. Crete (and Greece) uses the standard international ‘stop’ and ‘go’ signs. Parking is allowed along most city streets, but parking spots can be near impossible to find. In some locations it is necessary to purchase a parking card. These are dispensed from nearby kiosks. All things considered, Crete is a beautiful island and well worth exploring by car – those who don’t venture outside of their resorts miss out on seeing the island at its best.

Guests will discover that choices include five star luxury resorts, cozy mid-priced hotels and reasonably priced lodgings.

Adventure seekers will be challenged by the mountainside hiking offered on the island of Maui. After driving down the winding road to “heavenly Hana,” hikers will find themselves making their way along the seaside cliffs as they wrap around the coast. They will view tumbling waterfalls and valleys covered in greenery.

Maui is also the location of the Seven Pools and the burial spot of Charles Lindbergh. Furthermore, adventurers will discover thousands of feet of waterfalls that are positioned on the back side of Haleakala.

Snorkeling must be experienced by travelers visiting Hawaii and every island offers ideal conditions for this sport. However, the Big Island is especially dynamic and snorkelers can pick a location to enjoy the sea life from Waikoloa down to Kailua-Kona. The fish are plentiful and the coral has developed into amazing configurations. Guests on the Big Island will have the chance to view the giant Manta Rays during night tours that are planned to see these majestic sea animals in their natural habitat.

Sightseers will want to visit Kauai with access to helicopter tours of the “Garden Island.” Helicopter tours are generally an hour long and guests will fly over famous movie locations, amazingly tall waterfalls and views that can only be seen from the sky.

Travelers, who come to Hawaii for the beaches, will want to spend time on Lanikai Beach in Oahu. The ocean waters are clear, the beaches are clean and the coconut trees blowing in the breeze create a traditional tropical picture.

Hawaii is the perfect place to recharge and rediscover lost inspiration. Moreover, visitors will find a place to slow down and appreciate the beauty that mother earth is capable of.

If you’re planning to fly to Barcelona at Christmas and you can’t make up your mind about the best type of accommodation, I recommend you choose an apartment. That way, you will avoid a situation similar to the one you can see in the picture. Well… what is in there? A kind of Christmas tree on a table and… what’s that? Let me answer this question later…

Undoubtedly, an apartment has a lot of advantages that no other type of accommodation has. First of all, you can enjoy much more privacy than in a hotel or a hostel. Also, if you are looking for a budget accommodation, an apartment in Barcelona is much cheaper than a hotel. It is true that you can find hostels at the same price as some apartments in Barcelona and even cheaper. But in the hostel you have to share the shower, the kitchen, the laundry… and run the risk of being woken up by your roommates at different times of the night. So, I think that paying a bit more for an apartment is worth enough. You will have all the privacy you want and save some money to spend in restaurants, sightseeing, going to clubs, buying souvenirs and many other things to do in Barcelona. What is more, there are vacation apartments in Barcelona suitable for big groups that allow you to live together with your friends during your holidays in Barcelona. Take into account that Christmas is a peak season and hotels and hostels will get full quickly.

Now, I’d like to focus on more specific advantages about staying in an apartment in Barcelona at Christmas. And, at the same time, I’m going to solve the mystery of the picture. You can’t live the real Catalan Christmas without having the most typical Catalan decorations at home. If you want to experience a Catalan-style Christmas, you must have room to place a Christmas tree as you can’t leave it in the street like the one in the picture above! Also, you need a Nativity with lots of figures and you can’t forget the caganer in your Catalan Nativity, because it is its most important figure, apart from the child. So, hide this little shepherd doing a poop in the bushes. You will find all kinds of caganers in the Fira de Santa Llucia, a Christmas market which is located in the Cathedral of Barcelona and opens from the first Saturday of December to the 23rd. Also, you must hit the Caga-tio (see the picture above) to make this funny wooden log shit presents for your children. They will go crazy when they see sweets and presents falling out of the log’s bottom! And.. why don’t you try to cook a traditional Catalan dish like the “galets soup”? Galets is a kind of pasta in a soup traditionally served on Christmas in Catalonia. To do so, you need a well-equipped kitchen that you will only have in an apartment in Barcelona, of course.

Renting an apartment in Rome is a lot cheaper than renting a hotel. In fact, it is up to 60% cheaper when paralleled to a hotel in the same class. Besides, renting an apartment has much more space than a miniscule hotel room. Renting an apartment is especially appropriate for a family because you have the opportunity to cook all your own meals. Each apartment comes with a kitchen, saving you the money of going out to eat for all of your meals. It also provides you the relaxation of being able to sprawl around in your pajamas while eating breakfast in bed. Staying in an apartment will give you more of a familiar sentiment in Rome than say, an ordinary hotel room. And with numerous diverse apartments to choose from, you can choose the apartment to best fit your specific needs. On your next stay in Rome, rent an apartment and enjoy your stay. And don’t forget the old adage, when in Rome do as the Romans do.

1.We actually get cold weather

Believe it or not the sunshine state gets cold! If there is any type of cold weather along the east coast you can almost guarantee that Orlando, Florida will get some of that too. True, most of the time people will be wearing shorts at Christmas, but on occasion there will be a cold front that brings the spirit back. If you watch the Orlando news report you can find out day to day what the weather will be like.

Just know that you may not be able to get “away from the cold” just because you come to Orlando, Florida. There is an upside though because even though it’s cold it’s also, usually, beautiful. The sun will shine and the sky will be blue. If you’re coming for vacation you want perfect, warm weather. But, be forewarned, that isn’t always the case.

2.Disney World isn’t really in Orlando, Florida.

Believe it or not the “Happiest place on Earth” isn’t even located in Orlando, Florida. What’s that you say? That’s right The thing Orlando is known for the most isn’t really a part of Orlando. It’s actually located in Kissimmee, Florida or, as the locals knows it, Lake Buena Vista. How Orlando, Florida got the credit for it I’m not really sure. Maybe because everyone that comes here calls Kissimmee; Kiss-em-ee. That’s a dead giveaway that you are a tourist. Ha ha.

3.Orlando, Florida doesn’t get hit by hurricanes very often.

If you watch the news during hurricane season you may think that Orlando, Florida gets pounded by hurricanes every year. The truth is most of the storms start off in a path that looks like it may hit Florida and then veer off and usually hit the upper east coast.

If I were a tourist I would be more cautious of going to North or South Carolina because it’s their coasts that get pounded almost every year. Orlando, Florida is so far inland that even if we do get a storm it’s normally not a major hurricane. Once the storm hits land it normally weakens. True, if a storm hits it’s likely to cause damage. But most of the damage comes from falling tree limbs and old shingles being torn off roofs.

If you watch any Orlando news reports they will have you believing the world is going to end. Be assured that the storms are few and far between.

4.It’s not as tropical as you may think.

Here’s a little Orlando news for you. True, there are tons of Florida beaches to choose from if you are visiting Orlando, Florida. Some as little as 45 minutes away. But, Orlando itself is not very tropical. In fact the only water around Orlando comes in the form of fresh water lakes. There’re everywhere! There are palm trees and other tropical flowers but for the most part Orlando, Florida is nothing special. There are nice pockets of good looking areas but not all of Orlando is nice. But that can be said about any place.

5.Getting around Orlando, Florida can be a hassle

Remember those fresh water lakes mentioned earlier? They are pretty to look but they do cause a lot of issues when it comes to the roads. While most major cities have a grid system, which makes sense, Orlando just isn’t like that. There are a lot of streets that start out as one name. Then change to a completely different name. Then sometimes it will go back to the original name.

Some streets are like that because they have been added on over time but it can get confusing. I’d have a hard time finding my way home if the moved the McDonald’s so I’m sure that for non-locals this can become very frustrating. If you plan to navigate the streets of Orlando, Florida just make sure you have a really good GPS.

So those are the five things you may not know about Orlando, Florida. So now you can come here and live like a local.
